The year
2020 celebrates the 150th anniversary of The Blue, the Christ’s Hospital
School magazine. The publication has run to 770 issues containing over
32,000 pages. Alongside historic registers and minute books, it provides
a major source of record of the School’s rich heritage. This new book provides a history of the publication, including the difficult early days and progress through the years. Also covered are the technological and other advances which led to changes to the size of the publication and the use of colour. Information is provided about the design of the covers, and on content, such as House Notes, literary contributions, correspondence, obituaries and the Hertford connection; and also on individuals, for example Old Blues Sir Henry Cole, Sir Barnes Wallis and Edmund Blunden, and on links with Rudyard Kipling and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There is also a chapter on the personnel associated with the publication, including the editors and main contributors. This is a high-quality, A4 soft-back book of 88 b/w pages containing 110 illustrations. The book is published by Ashwater in association with Christ’s Hospital and is part-funded by the CH Museum. It is expected to be available in December 2020. Further details can be obtained from the author at ken.mansell@btinternet.com or 020 8668 5075. Or you can order a copy here: |
